You know what they call a fellow who finishes last in his medical school graduating class? They call him 'Doctor'.In a week I would be graduating from medicine. I spent 365 moons working in the hospital. Getting a feel of what it would be like as a 'doctor'. I have had a fair share of goods and bads.I would be lying if I told people that this has always been my dream. To pursue medicine and become a doctor was never my dream.
This was a post made way back in 2019. A post that I haven't finished/ published for some unrecalled reason.
A lot has happened since then. I did graduate. I did get into internship of choice. I did pass the boards. I did get into a government hospital. I did become an OBGYN resident. I did deliveries, curettage, surgeries, procedures that you could only imagine doing so confidently with time and experience. It's 2022 now. After 2 long years (and counting), braving through the COVID pandemic, and after 2 positive test results.. I'm now 28 years old. My gosh I'm old. But blessed with all these achievements. But am I happy?
It's been a week since I've submitted my resignation. They decided to give me a forced leave to think about my current plans, to refocus, and to really decide. I am currently on my last day to think about my decision. So far I have been going back and forth with the decision.
WHY I AM STILL HERE?
So I've come across this vlog where a guy talks about why he decided to quit medschool. 5 factors came in to play:
- Money
- Fun
- Helping people
- Purpose/ Meaning
- Social status
